Tuz Gölü, the Salt-lake

At the morning we had a traditionally breakfast: they brought a big blanket into the middle of the room, a smaller on it and trays with lots of delicacies.Zita got also a very nice necklace with a little, colourful heart medallion, she is wearing that always.

We could leave Letife’s house about 11am but around noon we were again eating with another Kurd family’s table in one of the petrol station, on front of Salt-lake, in Tuz Gölü.After this “party” we didn’t meet any Kurd friend but just get to the Tuz Gölü which is the biggest salt lake in Turkey.

We had a siesta in a defunct lakeside restaurant, just the boss and one employee was there, a young guy, called Yasin.

After the lunch we had a bath in Tuz Gölü, it wasn’t so deep.

The lake is located in 900 m, maybe cannot feel during the video watching. Was a very nice experience this bath.

The salt could be feeling also at the top of water surface not just in the water-course.

At night we found a petrol station complex with a little garden with chairs, table and covered spaces.

We had cover above our head so had to use just our tent cubicle. We had chair, table and could lock the bicycles nearby. We had also power. Murrat, the guy who was working that night in the petrol station, showed us the toilet and also brought us 2 teas. While we were having tea he asked us if we need anything else, and we asked some more lemons and water.

We didn’t rise early in Tepekoly since we went to a wedding the evening before. We had such wonderful experiences that we didn’t mind our late start that morning. Sahaps invited us for breakfast. Again we sat around the large serving tray, ate and had a good conversation. When we get home, we will buy such a large, wooden tray and adopt this Kurdish custom including the tea drinking.

Sahap was very curious about how we start and stop cycling with our recumbent bikes. So I gave him a small demonstration:

After our departure, we were happy to discover that the moorland we entered had only a few hills with mild slopes.

Even the villages were closer to each other, not more than 10 kms. We hardly passed a village, a few knolls, and the next minaret became visible in the distance.

In Kozanli we stopped at a small grocer to buy a few cookies and ice cream.

Zita had a wonderful time looking around and examining everything in the shop until she found her treasure. Even I thought her efforts were worth it. This treasure was an English-Turkish dictionary and cost only 1(one) lira.

Before reaching Kulu, there were a few more hills to overtake.

Here we met with a cool old guy, a shepherd, who sported Adidas training shoes. J They are not visible, unfortunately, in the pictures we took of him.

That evening in Latif, we received Kurdish hospitality again.
